GLADSTONE, Mo. — Police have identified the man shot and killed in Gladstone, Mo., as 19-year-old Marc A. Bogart. Police said Bogart is Gladstone’s first homicide of the year.
Bogart was found shot in the back seat of a red SUV near Northeast 70th and North Indiana at the Bluffs Apartment Complex Monday, July 21.
“This looks like a really safe and quiet place to live,” said Matlin Eubanks, who lives nearby.
But Monday night the Gladstone apartment complex was anything but quiet. Police were called to the area just before 10, after neighbors reported heard several gunshots.
The vehicle the man was found shot in was parked near Mel Wilson’s car.
“And when I come out and seen them doing compressions on his chest, I knew that probably wasn’t good, no way,” said Wilson.
The victim died at North Kansas City Hospital.
“Now, I know it’s a 19-year-old child with a mother and a father,” said Wilson.
All day Tuesday the young victim’s violent death pulled on the heartstrings of Mel Wilson. He’s a 62-year-old grandfather, who has lived at this apartment complex for 15 years.
“That’s not right. I don’t care what that little 19-year-old boy had done. It wasn’t worth killing him. He deserved a life,” said Wilson.
Neighbors told police after the shooting, two guys were seen running eastbound from the scene.
Police searched the area Monday night, and Tuesday detectives with the metro squad knocked on doors, and talked to neighbors, looking for clues.
“Shocking and disturbing because this is such a good neighborhood and you don’t see that stuff like this happening around here,” said Heather Swierski, another neighbor.
“I have no respect for the guys who shot and killed that little kid, I’m sorry, and people that do this, they’re gonna do it again,” said Wilson. “And the creeps that did it, I hope they get them.”
