OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Police are investigating after two people died in a double shooting in Overland Park Tuesday night.
Just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the area of West 61st Terrace and Robinson on a reported shooting. When they arrived at the scene, police located one male victim, who was in the street. The man was described as having life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Police found a second victim inside of a nearby home who was already dead.
Police identified the victims as Velik Henderson, 18, of Overland Park, and Trevon Anderson, 19, of Kansas City, Kansas.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, but they do believe the victims and suspects knew each other. So far no arrests have been made in this case.
Charles Ruffin and his wife told FOX 4 that they heard the shots and called 911.
“At first I thought they were just clowning around, but then they started yelling and screaming call 911, and after a few minutes I decided I better call 911 so I did,” Ruffin said.
Police have not released any suspect description, but witnesses say they saw an older model gray or white vehicle take off from the scene with two or three young men. Police are also reportedly investigating speculation that the deaths of these two men in Overland Park is related to the homicide of an Overland Park woman found Tuesday afternoon at Francis Street and Brisol Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. Kelsey Ewonus, 22, was found dead Tuesday at about 1:30 p.m. from a gunshot inside a blue car that had been sitting on the street.
Police did not say that they believe the three deaths are related, but said it was a piece they were investigating.
