KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Police are investigating this year’s 80th and 81st homicides in Kansas City.
On Sunday night police tweeted about a double homicide which took place at the Olive Park Village Apartment Complex, near 9th and Olive in Kansas City. Police say two men were shot to death shortly before 9:30 p.m.
Police are working to figure out whether or not the shooting took place inside an apartment unit there or outside of the building.
There were 80 homicides in Kansas City in 2014 and this case has 2015 surpassing that number. Police are urging the community to stop the violence.
“In the words of our Chief Daryl Forte, ‘stop the madness.’ Kansas City, we are experiencing ebbs and flows of violence and we have got to stop. We have got to come up with positive resolutions to conflict, and we urge the community to help us fight this, this sad, sad surge in crime we are experiencing now,” said Sgt. Kari Thompson with the Kansas City Police Department.
According to a tweet from chief Forte, multiple shell casings were found in the area of the shooting. The tweet adds that one person was found dead in a vehicle and another was found dead outside of the vehicle.
