LENEXA, Kan. — Police are investigating after a man died following a medical emergency call along I-435 early Wednesday morning.
According to investigators, emergency responders got a call around 3:47 a.m. regarding a medical emergency involving an unidentified 34-year-old man in a vehicle on I-435 near Lackman Road. The man was taken to an area hospital where he later died.
Authorities said they are investigating the man’s death as a homicide, strictly as a “resources point of view.”
“We want to make sure we don’t miss any evidence or anything that could be important later on,” said Dan Fresen with the Lenexa Police Department. “Since we have a lot of unanswered questions we want to be very thorough in our investigation until we’re able to determine absolutely what took place here.”
Fresen said they have confirmed that four men traveling in the same van were involved in a dispute on I-435 in the early morning hours on Wednesday. They pulled over onto the side of the road where the argument continued.
“It resulted in a physical fight,” Fresen said. “At some point and time the victim collapsed. The other people involved from the vehicle called 911 to seek assistance for him.”
Fresen said the victim was transported to an area hospital where he later died. It’s unclear at this time if he died from injuries he may have received during the dispute or from a medical issue.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of next-of-kin.
