OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Police in Overland Park have identified the 42-year-old man who drowned at a metro apartment complex over the weekend.

On Monday, police identified the victim as Emmanuel E. Nyiti of Shawnee. At first police reported that the victim was 32, but then later corrected his age to 42.

Around 7:45 Saturday night police were called to the Fiesta Square Apartments on west 85th Street on reports of a drowning. They say a 42-year-old man, who was later identified as Nyiti, drowned in the pool.

Police say witnesses saw Nyiti get in the shallow end of the pool and swim toward the deep end. They reportedly hadn’t seen him for a while, and then located him at the bottom of the pool.

Police say someone at the pool immediately tried to save Nyiti and performed CPR.

Emergency personnel arrived about five minutes after they received the call and continued CPR for about 30 minutes, but the victim could not be revived, Overland Park Fire Dept. public information officer Jason Rhodes said.
