BOLIVAR, Mo. — Authorities say that a man is in custody after he allegedly made a terrorist threat involving a mass shooting at a Bolivar, Missouri, movie theater and Walmart.
Authorities say that Blaec James Lammers, 20, had initially wanted to mimic the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting incident, and had planned on opening fire on theater-goers at a Sunday night screening of the latest “Twilight” movie.
Police say that Lammers had stated to police that he was planning on opening fire on theater-goers, and then moving on to the Walmart and opening fire on shoppers there while also obtaining more ammunition in the sporting goods department.
Authorities say that, according to Lammers’ plan, he would have turned himself in when police arrived on the scene.
Lammers faces making a terrorist threat, armed criminal action, and attempted 1st degree assault charges in connection to the planned attack. He is being held in the Polk County Jail in lieu of $500,000 cash-only bond.
Authorities say that Lammers had already purchased two assault weapons and a large amount of ammunition for his alleged planned attack.
“You don’t know how much of what he says is as accurate as if it was going to be, but when it’s enough concern to scare his own mother to turn him in, we have to take that extraordinarily seriously,” said Bolivar city administrator Darin Chappell..
Authorities say that Lemmer’s mother had contacted authorities on Thursday, saying that she was concerned about the weapons and that she feared that her son was planning a mass-shooting at a Bolivar movie theater.
Police say that they have no reason to believe that anybody else was involved with the plan. The case remains under investigation.
