LA PLATA, Md. — Authorities in Maryland say that a 24-year-old woman was found pushing her dead 3-year-old son in a park swing early Friday morning.

According to WJLA-TV, La Plata Police say that they received a call shortly before 7:00 a.m. saying that the unidentified woman had been pushing the toddler on the swing at Willis Memorial Park in La Plata for “an unusually long period of time,” perhaps even overnight.

Police say that the child showed no obvious signs of trauma, but authorities say that the boy’s body was taken to the Baltimore Medical Examiner’s office for a formal autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The mother was taken to an area hospital for a medical evaluation.
