KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police were called to the scene of an accident where one motorist was killed.

On Monday around 7:30 p.m. officers were called to 45th and Prospect where a KCMO water Department truck reportedly hit and killed a man riding a motorcycle.

Police identified the victim as 29-year-old Shamon Sawyer of KCMO.

Family members of the victim who were at the scene, told FOX 4 Sawyer had been expecting his first child.

Police said the truck was traveling southbound on Prospect and was attempting to turn left onto eastbound 45th Street, but instead entered into the path of Sawyer, who was traveling northbound on Prospect. Water crews stopped immediately and called police, while trying to render help to the victim, but unfortunately he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An officer there told FOX 4 that vehicles turning left must yield and give the right-of-way to through traffic; however if that through vehicle is traveling at excessive speeds, then they can lose the right-of-way.

As of Monday night police were interviewing witnesses at the scene and trying to determine who was at fault.
