OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — As the latest winter storm approaches, Overland Park police have released some helpful driving tips.

Tonight at 9 and 10, Abby Eden will have more on what to do when winter weather strikes.

  • Clean all of the snow and ice from windows for maximum visibility.
  • Check your tires for proper inflation. Tire pressure should be checked while the tire is cold, due to probable tire pressure changes as the tires heat up.
  • Interior windows should be kept clean to reduce glare.
  • Dimming the instrument panel, at night, will help reduce interior glare.
  • Make sure that your wiper blades are in good condition and that your car has plenty of washer fluid for the inclement weather.
  • Give yourself an extra space cushion as the weather gets bad. Expand your following distance and leave yourself an out.
  • Have an emergency kit in your vehicle to include flashlight, blanket, food, and water.
  • If you are involved in a slide off, stay in your vehicle until assistance arrives.
