SHAWNEE, Kan. — Police say that a mother and daughter missing on Tuesday morning at Shawnee Mission Park have been found safe.

The missing persons were described as a mother and her adult daughter, ages 54 and 23, who routinely go to the park to walk. According to authorities, a family member called Lenexa Police early Tuesday morning after they did not return home on Monday night.

The two were found safe on Tuesday morning. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene as a precaution. Police say that the pair went to the park around 7:00 p.m. on Monday night, but then got lost in the woods.

“So we decided just to sit on a rock and we kind of like snuggled up next to each other for awhile but couldn’t fall asleep,” said Hannah Jorgansen, who spent the night lost with her mother. “We waited for the moonlight to come out, and then that’s when we started walking back, kind of. Then all of the sudden there goes the sun!and I’m like, ‘How did the time fly?'”

They were found safe shortly after 7:00 a.m.

Officers with the Lenexa Police Department and the Shawnee Mission Park Patrol helped Shawnee Police with the search.
