LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo.– The family of a fatal hit and run victim is asking those responsible to come forward. Police say 34-year-old Edward Moody was hit by at least one car, maybe two on Highway 50 near Highway 291 Thursday night around 8 p.m. Police said the driver or drivers never stopped. Moody was pronounced dead at the scene.
Moody leaves behind a four-year-old son named Eddison. The boy’s mother, Katie Barker, said Eddie was the greatest dad.
“They were two peas in a pod,” said Barker. “They looked just alike, acted just alike, it was the hardest thing I’ve had to do, tell my son today.”
Barker said she met Moody six and half years ago and up until recently the two were in serious relationship. Despite the separation, Barker said Moody never missed an opportunity with his son, until last night.
“Every day he would come and take Eddison to the park, that’s when I knew something was wrong, Eddison was waiting for him yesterday,” said Barker.
Lee’s Summit Police said this was an accident, but now its a crime. Sgt. Chris Depue said evidence recovered at the scene has led police to narrow the suspects down to a Chevy Malibu made between 2000 and 2005.
Barker said this weekend, Eddison was supposed to go to his dads apartment for the weekend, now she’ll spend it trying to explain to her son what happened.
“It would be a lot easier for me to handle, to tell my son if it was just an accident, but when you leave, that makes it not an accident anymore, it makes you cold hearted,” said Barker.
Barker said Moody worked two jobs to support his son, and recently had received a promotion at one of them.
