It was an honest mistake, really. During his weekly blessing from the Vatican, Pope Francis inadvertently said the F word.

Actually, the Pope was speaking Italian and in Italian the word was “cazzo,” which Italians use as a synonym for the F word. It’s also the literal translation for the male organ.

Pope Francis, who is a native Spanish speaker, meant to use the word “caso,” which means “example,” but ended up saying “cazzo,” which is reportedly a common mistake for Spanish speakers.

Here’s an English translation of what he said:

“If each one of us does not amass riches only for oneself, but half for the service of others, in this f–k [pause], in this case the providence of God will become visible through this gesture of solidarity.”

The Vatican spokesman had no comment on the incident.
