INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Almost one year ago, Clifton Scott, a MoDOT employee working the scene of a crash in Independence along I-70, was killed when a driver barrelled through the warning cones and flares and slammed into Scott’s truck.
On Thursday, MoDOT employees, city leaders and emergency responders gathered to remember fallen workers and honor the one-year anniversary of Scott’s death.
Scott’s family unveiled new signs that will be placed on I-70, designating a portion of it as the ‘Clifton J. Scott Memorial Highway.’
Scott was 50-years old.
David Murdick, 35, a Blue Springs lawyer faces involuntary manslaughter charges but still has not gone to trial.
Police say Murdick drove through cones and flares before hitting Scott, and then Scott’s truck — which burst into flames. Murdick’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, police said.
