possible explosion River Market

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Wednesday around 11:30 a.m. James Garrett of the Kansas City Fire Department confirmed crews were headed to a reported underground electrical fire at 3rd and Main.

Witnesses at the scene say at least one business in the area was evacuated. A FOX 4 photographer who was at the scene said crews from KCP&L were in a manhole ventilating, and reported hearing a rumbling noise which caused the manhole covers to pop up.

KCP&L says they were asked to shut off power in the area as a precaution. There said 37 customers in the area were without power.
