KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City man has been charged with three felony counts for allegedly kidnapping and terrorizing a 35-year-old woman in her home, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Wednesday.
Roderick Sanders, 23, faces two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and kidnapping.
According to court records, Sanders held the victim at her home against her will and brandished a firearm. He forced her into her car and drove until he shot through the window of another car and then fired shots inside her residence. The victim stated she was afraid and thought Sanders might kill her.
Court documents state the two began dating in December 2012 and were living together at her Belmont Ave. residence. The victim told police prior to the kidnapping incident, Sanders had assaulted her once before, pulling her out of her car by her hair. She told police she managed to run away and hide under another car in the area. When she returned to her vehicle she told police her phone and purse were missing.
The victim told police she had not been staying at her home due to her fear of Sanders, but on Oct. 14 she went to check on her home and found Sanders inside with a gun. She said he threatened to kill himself. Court documents state Sanders drove the victim around in her car that day with the gun to her head and at one point fired two shots out the windshield while traveling down I-435. Sanders eventually drove back to the victim’s residence where court documents state he put the gun in her mouth. Afterwards, Sanders allegedly fired two shots in the front room while aiming toward the floor.
The case remains under investigation. Prosecutors asked for a cash bond of $150,000.
