KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Denver Broncos have won the Peyton Manning sweepstakes. Manning officially agreed to sign with Denver on Monday, but terms of the contract have not yet been finalized.
The 36-year-old quarterback is entering his 15th season in the NFL. The Indianapolis Colts selected Manning out of Tennessee with the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft.
Manning started 208 games over 14 seasons with the Colts. Over that span, he threw for 399 touchdowns, 198 interceptions, and 54,828 yards.
In addition to his Hall of Fame worthy statistical credentials, Manning has won two AFC titles, one Super Bowl title, and four M.V.P.’s.
After missing all of the 2011 season with a neck injury, Manning was cut by the Colts days before he was due a $28 million dollar roster bonus. Manning has undergone three to four neck surgeries in recent years.
Former Broncos QB and current VP of football operations, John Elway, showed immediate interest once Manning was released from the Colts. Denver was the first team Manning visited.
Kansas City also showed major interest in acquiring Manning, but he declined an invitation to visit the Chiefs.
Broncos QB Tim Tebow is expected to be on the trading block soon.
