KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A student is facing consequences after writing “kill all blacks” on a piece of paper at Piper High School. Students said someone took a picture of the paper and the image quickly spread throughout Snapchat.
“Our message is clear, there needs to be more cultural understanding here at Piper High School,” said Cara Bruce, a student at the high school. “Enough is enough, there needs to be more done.”
Bruce’s father said he wants the student who did it to get checked out by professionals.
“Make sure that they aren’t a threat to themselves or any of the students in the school,” he told FOX 4.
The district e-mailed a letter to parents on Tuesday notifying them about the incident. The high school principal said appropriate consequences will be enforced.
“It’s really upsetting and a lot of things like this have happened, it just hasn’t got out,” said L.J. Brown, a student at the school.
Brown said he wants the student who wrote it to apologize.
“Everybody deserves a second chance and I would definitely accept his apology,” he said.
Tim Conrad, the district superintendent, could not meet with FOX 4 for an interview but issued us a statement on Tuesday.
His statement read:
“Piper School District is dealing with this as efficiently and swiftly as possible. We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to discrimination. Safety of our students is a top priority. This will not be tolerated nor is it acceptable and will be disciplined in accordance with policy and statute.”
Conrad would not tell FOX 4 about what kind of punishment the student will face, citing privacy concerns.
