INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Independence Police need the public’s help finding the people responsible for three recent shootings. Shots were fired behind William
Chrisman High School on Tuesday night.
No one was hurt but police say bullets landed in someone’s home. Also, a man who was beaten was taken to the hospital. Now, police are on the lookout for more than a dozen people who may be involved. If you ask John Lucito who grew up in Independence most of his life, he’ll tell you it’s usually quiet. That was not the case Tuesday night.
“I was just sitting watching t-v and I heard what sounded like fireworks,” he said. “Then me and my wife look at each other like, that wasn’t fireworks we got up and look out the back door and there were four or five vehicles taking off.”
Independence Police say it was a previous disagreement coming to a head between two separate groups. He believes one of the groups came from Kansas City.
“The other group is yet to be identified,” said Capt. Ed Turner with Independence Police.
Later Tuesday night, Kansas City Police stopped two of the cars believed to be involved in the incident.
“We do have three guns that have been recovered so far out of the two vehicles and we know that this particular element that traveled into Independence from Kansas City were in possession of those guns,” said Capt. Turner.
One man was beaten during the encounter and is in stable condition. Police have six people in custody and want to hear from all 20 people
believed to be there on Tuesday night. Two other shootings are being investigated. One happened on March 11th at Brookstone Dr. and S. Swope and a shooting near Hocker and East College on March 14th.
“We’re really at this point asking the community to become involved and to assist us with being eyes and ears on the street,” said
