HOLT COUNTY, Mo. — Missouri Highway Patrol Troopers are working to drain a deep “hole” filled with flood water, in a new search for missing Trooper Fred Guthrie.
Guthrie disappeared near Bigelow, in Holt County, in August during his Water Patrol shift. His K-9 partner was found several days later, drowned by floodwaters from the Missouri River. The hole troopers are searching now is near where the dog was found.
Troopers are suctioning out thousands of gallons of water a minute, in an attempt to send drivers down the hole to search. The strong current and high waters prevented divers from getting very deep in previous searches.
