A United States Army Staff Sergeant received a unique salute on Friday in Kansas City, but the salute didn’t come by the move of a hand. It came in the form of water from the Kansas City Fire Department.
FOX 4 photojournalist Jon Haiduk shows the unique honor for Staff Sergeant Gerald Atkinson, who was shot down in Germany in 1945. His remains were recently found near Berlin.
The Army used DNA to confirm his identity. Atkinson was born in Alabama and will be buried Saturday in Florida.
