EDWARDSVILLE, Kan. — Crews from both Edwardsville and Kansas City, Kan. responded to an emergency call where a tree fell on a man Monday night.
Chief Mark Mathies, with the Edwardsville Police Department, said officers received the call shortly before 6 p.m. regarding a man who had been pinned underneath a large tree at 1532 S. 98th Street.
Mathies said the victim was on the property cutting trees for firewood. He did not own the property, but had permission from the owner to be there. The man was discovered under the tree by the owner’s 17-year-old son.
Police said the property owner and his son had not heard from the victim for about an hour, so the 17-year-old and his dog went to look for him. That is when they discovered the victim pinned under the tree and made the 911 to police.
Police said the tree that had fallen on the victim was the width of a common door, about three feet across. An autopsy of the man has been completed; however authorities say they will not release information on the identity of the deceased man or the nature of his death until his next of kin have been notified.
