OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — More than 300 residents at Tallgrass Creek retirement community will participate in a Royals pep rally and food drive on Friday, October 10. They’re calling it “Sweep the Orioles in the ALCS and Sweep Out Hunger.” This event is being held in conjunction with Harvesters, a regional food bank serving a 25-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas.
Tallgrass Creek resident and staff will donate food and related household products during an 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Pep Rally to cheer their beloved Kansas City Royals onto an ALCS victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
In addition, Alysia Quisenberry Metcalf, the daughter of late Kansas City Royals icon Dan Quisenberry, will be speak about her dad and also share vintage Royals memorabilia.
During the Pep Rally residents and staff will:
- Sign a huge banner that will be taken to Game 3 of the ALCS at Kauffman Stadium.
- Dress in Kansas City Royals attire amid Kansas City Royals pennants and blue brooms symbolizing a “sweep.”
- Share stories of their experiences at “The K,” and of their love of Kansas City Royals baseball and the team’s glory years, past and present-day.
- Participate in a Royals cheer, en masse, that is intended to rival that of fans at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore.

ABOUT HARVESTERS:
Harvesters provides food and related household products to more than 620 not-for-profit agencies including emergency food pantries, community kitchens, homeless shelters, children’s homes and others. They also offer education programs to increase community awareness of hunger and teach about good nutrition.
