RICHMOND, Mo. — A 26-year-old woman faces a list of charges after witnesses say she spit on and struck a pregnant woman in the stomach and face on Saturday night. Tiffany Marie Smith allegedly jumped onto a running board of a moving truck, and assaulted the pregnant woman through the passenger side window.

The victim told investigators she and Smith began yelling at one another after the victim started smoking a cigarette. When the argument escalated, the pregnant woman left the house they were in to get in the truck and away from Smith.

A probable cause statement says that Smith followed her while holding a 1-month-old infant. Smith’s mother told investigators she heard the commotion and knew Smith was “getting out of control,” and took the child fearing for their safety.  She said after taking the child from her, Smith hopped on the running board as the truck began to move, and began punching the victim.

As they traveled down the street, the driver had the victim take the wheel so he could stop Smith’s assault, but they left the roadway, colliding with a stop sign and utility poles at the corner of East Lexington Street and Morningside Drive. The probable cause statement doesn’t describe any injuries as the result of the crash.

Court documents say the medical status of the pregnant woman and her child is currently unknown.

Smith stands charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a felony, and four separate counts of misdemeanor assault.

Court records show that Smith served time in the Missouri Department of Corrections after pleading guilty in 2010 to a felony count for not paying child support. She’s due to be arraigned on Tuesday for these most recent charges, and prosecutors have requested a $15,000 cash-only bond for her release.
