KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Lee’s Summit teen isn’t bitter about falling short on the X-Factor.
Despite the show crowning a new champion, Rylie Bown is still making music and she’s hoping to inspire those less fortunate with her talent and ambition.
Even at a young age, Rylie gets it. She knows there is no easy way to make in the music business. Yes, you need talent, it also takes determination and dedication. Rylie is going to share her story and music with a packed house at City Union Mission on Friday afternoon.
Nearly 100 men women and children who call the City Union Mission home will get a hot meal and some Christmas cheer from Rylie.
“I think it is just going to be a really, really fun night for the artists to come together as a family and everyone just feels a sense of community,” said Rylie.
Rylie and friends and fellow singers, Alex Hayward and Maddie and Hudson Watts will put on a Christmas concert. They’ve been rehearsing all week and hope to make people smile. But more than happiness, Rylie hopes to inspire.
“If I didn’t have people in my life that inspired me to get to this point, I wouldn’t be here, so I want to be that for someone else,” explained Rylie.
City Union Mission Executive Director Dan Doty says the private performance couldn’t come at a better time.
“For many of the people this is not the most favorite place to be at Christmas time, but most if not all family grateful to be in safe place for the holidays,” said Doty.
Doty is happy and humbled Rylie and her friends chose City Union Mission.
“We want to make this Christmas time a very special time so this is one of the great events that will make this possible,” said Doty.
The concert is just for the families staying at the mission, but Rylie is putting it up on live on Ustream. She’ll have the links on her twitter and facebook pages.
