OLATHE, Kan. — A naval father has gone a year without holding his son. That all changed on Tuesday. Emerson Vance from Overland Park has been serving the first of three years in the Navy aboard the USS Nimitz. Vance’s mother, Crystal Kelly, put the reunion with his son Elijah in motion, something she said she’d been dreaming of.
The reunion at Indian Creek Elementary between the father and son wasn’t the only special occasion, Tuesday also happens to be Kelly’s birthday! The family will get to spend time together before Vance redeploys next week. He hopes to return in March for Elijah’s birthday.
