KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Tuesday, Nov. 5, Jackson County voters will decide whether they want a half cent sales tax hike.

The tax would collect $40 million a year.  Half of the collected tax would to to Children’s Mercy, while St. Luke’s and the University of Missouri at Kansas City would each receive around 20 percent.

The rest of the money would to go other research programs in Jackson County.

Supporters say it could lead to groundbreaking cures, but opponents are skeptical.

Representatives of both sides appeared on Monday’s FOX 4 Morning Show to  argue both viewpoints.  Wayne Carter from the Life Sciences Institute is for the tax.  Marcus Leach with Citizens for Responsible Research is against the tax.

Election Day is Tuesday in Jackson County.  Voters can go to the polls as early as 6:00 a.m. and they will remain open until 7:00 p.m.
