GOLDEN CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Highway Patrol confirmed reports that a body was found Wednesday afternoon, and although they would not confirm it is Adriaunna Horton, Adriaunna’s father, James Horton, told reporters in Golden City, Mo. that she had been found and was not alive. One of Horton’s grandmothers also told FOX 4’s Robert Townsend that the body found was Adriaunna’s.
In a news conference, the Missouri Highway Patrol said the body was found just west of Golden City at about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
They said it would take up to 24 hours to positively identify the body.
Adriaunna, 12, disappeared Monday afternoon from a park in Golden City. About an hour and a half after her friend reported she had gotten into a car with a man she knew, police arrested Bobby Bourne, 34. Adriaunna knew Bourne as a man who had done some work for her father. Police say Bourne lured her into his car by telling her a story about his daughter being missing, and asking for her help.
When Bourne was stopped by police, Adriaunna was not with him. Since then, hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement teams have searched for her on horseback, on four-wheelers, in a helicopter and have called in dive teams.
Bourne was known by the Horton family and even worked with Adriaunna’s father, James.
“He was a co-worker, he worked for me for a little while, we did construction and things like that. He was a neighbor who used to live behind us for a little while, he moved away. He went to jail, come back, he was out a few months and pulled this stunt here,” James Horton said
Adriaunna’s mother is from Overland Park. Her father, James Horton, lives in Golden City. Adriaunna is the oldest of four children.
Bourne has still only been charged with kidnapping but he did not make a court appearance on Wednesday. It’s been speculated that more charges may be added now that a body has been found, authorities are waiting for the body to be positively identified before further action.
