U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was in Kansas City on Friday to promote a new partnership aimed at saving people from harm in the hospital, and saving money in the process.

According to recent studies, as many as one in three patients are injured or become sick in the hospital. The Partnership for Patients, an effort of the federal government, health organizations and consumer groups, aims to reduce the number of preventable hospital injuries by 40 percent over the next three years, saving 60,000 lives in the process. In addition, they aim to reduce hospital admissions by 20 percent.

Sebelius visited Truman Medical Center to see how that hospital has worked to reduce hospital accidents.
