DE SOTO, Kan. — Authorities with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the death of another person in De Soto, Kan. The body of an unidentified male was found near an apartment complex in the 8500 block of Ottawa St. around 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
After saying they were investigating the death as a homicide, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department said they’re now calling the second body found an “unattended death.” An update provided by the sheriff’s department on Wednesday afternoon confirmed that the second body is that of a white male in his late 20’s.
Less than 24 hours earlier, another body was discovered near 95th and Lexington in De Soto. Sheriff’s deputies also called that death an “unattended death.” Autopsy results regarding the first body that was discovered are expected later Wednesday. Authorities have not released the gender.
The first body that was found on Tuesday was located in an area where searchers had been looking for 22-year-old Brad Cook, an Olathe man who has been missing since Oct. 20. Cook was last seen in a parking lot of Beer 30 in De Soto.
Authorities said that the investigations for the two bodies are unrelated as of 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
