PLATTE CITY, Mo. — A portion of I-29 in northwest Missouri was renamed on Friday in memory of a Missouri Highway Patrol trooper killed in last year’s floods.
The section of the interstate between Missouri Highway 273 near Tracy and Highway E near Camden Point will now be known as the Trooper Fred Guthrie Memorial Highway.
Guthrie and his K-9 partner, Reed, were swept away by fast-moving Missouri River flood waters as they patrolled the Big Lake area in Holt County in August of 2011.
The dedication ceremony took place at the Platte County Resource Center on Friday. Guthrie left behind a wife and three children.
