CAMERON, Mo. — A man, who had just in the past year, began serving a life sentence without parole for several felony charges, including first-degree murder, has died at a Missouri correctional facility.

According to a release from the Missouri Department of Corrections, around 10 p.m. Saturday, Joseph Arbeiter, 67, who had been confined at Crossroads Correctional Center in Cameron, Missouri, was pronounced dead while at the University Medical Center in Columbia, Missouri.

Arbeiter, who was received in the Missouri Department of Corrections on Dec. 18, 2104, was serving a life without parole sentence for first-degree murder, armed criminal action, first-degree sodomy, first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse, unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree assault and possession of marijuana in Clay County.

Arbeiter was the man found guilty of killing and dismembering a Marshall, Missouri woman, then hiding her remains in a trailer in Sedalia, where they were discovered on May 4, 2014 by Arbeiter’s landlord. He had previously been convicted of murder in 1963 as well.

The Missouri Department of Corrections said Arbeiter died of what appeared to be natural causes.
