LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — Friends and family are pulling together to help a loved one. David King was on a ladder in October of 2011 when he had a seizure and fell.
He woke up three days later in the hospital and partially paralyzed. On Saturday, friends a family held a series of fundraisers to help King with his recovery. Nearly five months after the accident, his friends at the Lee’s Summit VFW Post dedicated the day to helping his family.
“If it was not for the community and all the volunteers, we would not be able to do this,” said Nicole Kelly. “I would like to send a huge thank you to them.”
People who didn’t even know King started pouring in before 8 a.m. Saturday.
“He’s been so positive,” said friend Cheryl Milburn. “he has never let the therapy get him down. He was in pain. He ever let the fact that he wasn’t home all of the time get him when he was in rehab.”
Against the odds, people are praying for a miracle.
“We all have hope that he is going to walk again,” she said. “He as a lot to fight for.”
King and his wife have four kids. Trevor says he wants to call his 6’8 dad “coach” again.
“Trevor was upset and had to get a new coach for this first year,” said Jacob King. “Trevor is hoping he will be back next year to coach him.”
While King undergoes grueling therapy, his friends are keeping hope alive. King says he plans to stay positive and work hard not to let friends or family down.
