LOGANVILLE, Ga. — A Georgia family is excited to have a new family member! Mr. Gibbs is a Golden Doodle who happens to be a service dog.
Aaron Knobloch says it was an easy decision to get a four-legged lifeline for his three-year-old daughter. She has a rare lung condition called NeuroEndocrine Hyperplasia of Infancy or NEHI. It requires her t o use oxygen so that she can get enough oxygen into her blood so her heart doesn’t have to work harder.
“We want her to have the most normal childhood she can,” said Knobloch.

Now, the family has Mr. Gibbs. The dog wears a red service vest that carries two tanks at a time. That allows his daughter to be more independent. They’ve only had the dog for a short time, and Knobloch says the dog still has trouble accepting commands from his pint-size master.
“It’s hard for him to understand that she is in charge,’ he said.
The family got the dog from a personal trainer. They didn’t want to take a fully-trained animal from a service animal group – fearful the animal could go to people with more serious conditions
