SHAWNEE, Kan. — She’s A Pistol’s doors are officially back open for self-defense classes which resumed Saturday afternoon. Employees say it’s exactly what Jon Bieker, the store’s owner, would’ve wanted.
From the outside looking in, you see a memorial for Bieker, who was killed during an armed robbery attempt of the store earlier this month, but beyond the doors there’s something else happening to keep his memory alive.
Bieker opened She’s A Pistol with his wife, Becky, with the goal of spreading confidence in self-defense.
The two taught classes together and Saturday afternoon those classes began again. Employees are now stepping in, in Jon’s place, teaching three classes Saturday on how to defend yourself against a carjacking. Nearby businesses are happy to see She’s A Pistol get back on its feet.
“It’s imperative. The way things are these days with the crime trickling around everywhere. It’s a very secure feeling to know there’s a business like that, that prepares you, especially us particularly at a dance studio. A bunch of women trying to enjoy our dance we want to feel secure in what we’re doing. It gives us confidence to know there’s someone support self-protection,” Nallia School of Dance Supervisor Zaina Ali said.
The retail store is not open yet but self-defense classes will continue now on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as weekends. For more information head to https://shesapistol.com/cgi/cart.pl
