KANSAS CITY, Kan.- Police said people in two cars were shooting at each other in a store parking lot Monday, and witnesses said at least two people were taken to the hospital.

It happened around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Dollar General Store on 20th and Quindaro.

Witnesses said at least two people were taken to the hospital. It’s unclear if they were involved in the shootout or if they were innocent bystanders.  It’s also unclear the extent of their injuries

The store’s parking lot was littered with shell casings. Store employees said there were people outside when it happened.

The whole scene was frightening to neighbors. Lakesha Mackey lives just a home away from the store.

“I heard two sets of shooting, so I didn’t know what was going on. I just made sure my children were down on the floor,” Mackey said.

Mackey told FOX 4 a shooting has not happened that close to their home in years.

“It shocked me that there was a shooting here on this block because that kind of thing doesn’t happen anymore. It’s been pretty quiet and clean for a few years now,” she said.

It’s unclear if police have any suspects in custody.

But there was another location police were investigating a few blocks away.  A car at that scene might have been involved according to the information Fox 4 gathered.  There is no word on a second suspect car.
