KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sunday, snow and the Super bowl; it’s a busy day for football fans across the country, especially last minute folks fighting the weather and crowds to get everything they need for the big game.
It’s almost a holiday for Americans. Stickers, signs and mountains of food at the Hy-Vee grocery store off 64th Street in the northland all point to the big game.
Store Operations Manager Evan Eslick said, “We don’t want to ruin a Superbowl viewing so we want to make sure we’ve got everything for them here.”
Eslick said Sundays are normally pretty busy, but this Sunday, crowds started a little earlier.
“You’ve got your snow scare that came in effect overnight, and then you’ve got the Superbowl of course so everyone’s going to be prepping for that. It’s usually a big food day,” said Eslick.
A big food day second only to Thanksgiving, that has both the deli and meat counters fully stocked and double-staffed.
Deli counter worker Rudy Camacho said, “We have these fiesta trays out, like seven-layer dips, those are flying off the shelves today. Also our deli meats are on sale because sandwiches are always good for Superbowl parties.”
Parties like the one this Chiefs fan Jessica Camacho has planned for her family. Her team didn’t make the big game, but she’s still going to bring her a-game to the kitchen.
“There’s always next year. We’ll make it next year, every single year. That’s what they say!” She said with a laugh.
Camacho shared her Superbowl menu with FOX 4.
“I’m making flank steak sandwiches and some Rotel dip, can’t go wrong with that,” she said.
While the roads weren’t too bad Sunday morning, stay with FOX 4 for forecast updates as colder temperatures are set to kick in Sunday evening.
