KANSAS CITY, Mo. — If you think you’ve seen a lot more store fronts popping up, you’re not alone. Small businesses are on the rise in Kansas City.

A store in Kansas City is making sure there’s a place for a little Midwestern pride.

“That’s why we kind of chose Kansas City. It’s another city like Des Moines, that’s just proud to be a part of the Midwest,” said Co-manager Suzanne Corum-Rich.

New businesses, like Raygun, are popping up all over Kansas City. Raygun joins the ranks of 50,000 other small businesses in the area.

“Those 50,000  make up 97 percent of businesses in the whole metropolitan area,” said Patricia Brown-Dixon of the Small Business Administration.

In a recovering economy, opening up a business might be hard. But Brown-Dixon credits the city’s support system as the main attraction.

“All kinds of incubators. All of the chambers are working together to make it happen. Our lending community is making it accessible and possible for people,” she said.

Setting up shop in Kansas City has been an upward trend since 2004. So when it was time to expand Raygun from its hometown of Des Moines, Iowa to Kansas City, it was a no-brainer.

“There’s so much happening here that people don’t know about. It’s kind of like a hidden gem,” said Corum-Rich.

Now there’s a place to experience the Midwest in the heart of The Crossroads. Raygun will have it’s grand opening on First Friday, April 4.
