KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Eighteen families adopted 26 kids in Jackson County for National Adoption Day. At this party, there was no stopping the celebration.
From dapper bow ties to sparkly skirts, these kids dressed their very best because parents want to capture every moment of this day.
Families are getting a little bigger on National Adoption Day. It’s the third time going through this process for the Blansits. Friday afternoon, they’re here for 3-year-old Ethan.
“He’s just an amazing little guy. We’re so excited to have him in our home. It’s been such a blessing to have him,” said Todd Blansit.
“He fell asleep in my arms about a year and a half ago and here we are,” said wife Tiffany.
There are more than 1,800 children in foster care in Jackson County. Danny and Happy Sparks have cared for 150 kids and counting including Ethan.
“When he came home, he had gangrene on his fingers and in his leg. God has brought him to what he is now,” said Danny.
“It’s always hard to give them up but god always has a way,” Happy added.
Some are too young to understand what this day really means. There are smiles, cuddles, and tantrums. But the wait is finally over.
“I remember the day I went and picked him up and day care just to help for the weekend. He came running up. I think he hears my kids call me dad all the time. When eh just yelled daddy and wanted me to hold him, I thought that was it. Whatever it takes. If it comes available, we want to be his forever family,” said Todd.
