KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A three-year-old son of a soldier got a big surprise on Sunday. Santa helped make a wish come true.

“RJ doesn’t quite understand why Daddy doesn’t get to come home every night,” said Jessica Schatz who’s husband is a soldier. “Night time is the worse. He cries for him and wants Daddy to read him a story and tuck him in.”

Three-year-old RJ went to see Santa at Cabela’s in Kansas City, Kansas on Sunday afternoon. Santa asked him what he wanted for Christmas and RJ responded, “my dad.”

After a little bit of fist pumping, Santa presented RJ with a surprise…his dad is home for Christmas! RJ was excited that his dad is back.

“Cause I was missing my dad,” said RJ Schatz.

RJ’s mom says she chose Cabela’s because her husband and son link to hunt and fish. The store is a bonding place for the pair. Staff Sgt. Schatz says it was a blast.

“Words can’t begin to explain how I feel about being able to spend the holidays with my family,” Sgt. Schatz said.

Staff Sergeant Schatz says life is about creating memories and he plans to enjoy his family over the next couple of weeks until he re-deploys in January.
