KANSAS CITY, Kan. — If Christmas is about being with family, nothing shows that better than this story. Watch as three little girls unwrap a big present at Cabela’s near The Legend’s on Monday. Army sergeant Mateo Donaldson wasn’t supposed to be home from Afghanistan until March.

Instead the Leavenworth dad surprised his three daughters just two days before Christmas.

“This is the best day of my life right now, they didn’t know I was coming home for Christmas, so I want to thank every last one of you for today,” Sgt. Donadlson said. “And thank you to everyone who supported.”

His three daughters, ages nine, seven and four, thought the box contained either a robot or a giant panda.

But they said having dad was way better and beats having to see him by Skype on Christmas Day. Cabela’s helped the family celebrate with a $100 gift card. FOX 4 will have more on this happy homecoming during FOX 4 News at 9.
