KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Around 300 military veterans and their spouses were at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday for a special job fair designed to connect them with companies who are interested in hiring those who have served in any branch of the U.S. military.
The economy may be on the rebound, but that doesn’t mean its any easier for veterans transitioning out of military life.
On Thursday afternoon, veteran-friendly employers like the Missouri Department of Transportation, Burlington Northern, Santa Fe Railway and Prudential Insurance were offering face-to-face interviews with veterans and their spouses looking for new careers.
The event was organized by Recruit Military, a firm founded and owned by veterans, who saw a need to better connect returning warriors with companies needing dependable workers.
Robert Walker, a spokesman for the company, said more employers recognize that when it comes to reliability, training and leadership — it’s hard to beat a veteran.
“It can definitely be tough getting out of the service, because when I got out of the service in 1996, this company was not around. I know how tough it was for me to get out of the service, because veterans have a hard time, ” Walker told FOX 4.
Any veteran or their spouse can come down to Arrowhead Stadium for the free event until 3:00 p.m. Thursday to interview or connect with recruiting and hiring managers that they might not get a chance to meet.
Strong work histories, stability and dedication to their jobs are attractive qualities that many employers say may make those military veterans stand out.
