KANSAS CITY, Mo. – At at time when the world seems to be purely digital, many people are choosing to go back to the basics. The people at the University of Missouri Extension Office say they`re seeing a renewed interest in farming from people who represent all walks of life.
University of Missouri Extension Office officials say an uncertain economy and a desire to get back to basics in lifestyle and diet seem to be a driving force, and those are two of the forces for at least two families in the metro area. The Gekas Family looked through downtown condos and suburban homes and decided on a total of 18 acres in a rural area three miles from the Kansas Speedway. Jeff Jungk left the corporate world and decided he’d make his living by going back to his family’s open land in Weston. These plugged-in folks are going back to the farm, and they’re not alone.
