ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — A St. Joseph woman has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of her bedridden four-year-old child, authorities announced on Wednesday.
Alexandra Thurman Laureen Schurr, 21, was arrested and charged on Wednesday in the October 10th death of her daughter, Amber Elizabeth Mosier.
Prosecutors allege that Mosier, who had cerebral palsy and was on a feeding machine, died as a result of an airway obstruction caused by gastrically delivered feeding material.
Authorities say that the child, who died in her room at her St. Joseph home, had not been checked from 9:00 a.m. to the time she was found lifeless and police arrived at 5:27 p.m. In addition, Schurr is alleged to have not given the child her prescribed medicine for several days prior to her daughter’s death.
Schurr is currently being held in the Buchanan County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
