RAYTOWN, Mo. — Strong storms knocked out power to nearly 20,000 people in the metro overnight Sunday. South Raytown was hit especially hard.
Instead of getting to relax many dads were stuck cleaning up this Father’s Day.
Raytown Police said Jan and Jimmy McCreary and Donnell Verner live in the hardest hit area of Raytown between 83rd and 87th Streets. The storm brought down dozens of trees and power lines after 4 a.m. Sunday.
“It’s always something on father’s day, mothers gets all the goodies,” said Verner, who lost several trees in his front and back yards.
Jan McCreary said at first she thought the house was being hit by hail.
“It scared the heck out of me, I’m not going to say it didn’t,” she said. “It was very scary, like I said, what a Father’s Day present,” said dad of two Jimmy McCreary.
Verner and the McCreary’s had already made calls to their insurance companies when FOX 4 spoke with them Sunday morning. They said several people on the street had just had their roofs replaced after a different hail storm blew through.
