KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Strawberry Hill Museum is celebrating 25 years of operation this summer and it has some special artifacts on display.
Marijana Grisnik, a Croatian-American artist, painted a special piece to honor the anniversary. Her artwork will be in display at the museum throughout July.
One of the biggest attractions at the museum is the bed of a former pope.
“One of the big things right now with Pope John Paul II being pushed through the saint hood — when he traveled the states on TWA, he had a special bed and all his dinner ware, tooth brush and toothpaste were donated to the museum by TWA,” explained the museum’s David Hartman.
On Friday, the Vatican announed Pope John Paul II will become a saint this year, less than a decade after his death.
The cultural and historical museum is housed in a building that was originally a family home in the 1880s. The building later housed nuns from Croatia and also housed hundreds of orphans during the influenza epidemic in the 1918 – 1920.
