KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Nearly 40 children die every year after being left in a hot vehicle. Experts say that even the best parent or caregiver can forget they have a small passenger on-board.
New technology like car seat monitors, or something as simple as a stuffed animal sitting in the front seat to serve as a reminder can help prevent a tragic accident.
One obvious tip is never leave a child alone in a car — even for a minute. Use the “look before you lock” method, which gets you in the habit of always opening the back door of your car to make sure a child is not inside. And when a child is missing always check your vehicles, including the trunk.
