BOGOTA, Colombia — A surgeon in Great Britain is being commended for removing a huge mole from the back of a six-year-old boy with a rare condition.
People in Didier Montalvo’s village called him “turtle boy.” He suffered from a rare condition called Congenital Melanocytic Nevus and because of it, Didier’s family was ostracized. Villlagers said he was touched by evil and blamed his condition on his conception happening during an eclipse. He wasn’t allowed in school and could not be baptized.
Then Dr. Neil Bulstrode heard about his story and agreed to operate on Didier for free. Didier had to undergo several painful operations and required skin grafts.
