KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Susan Hiland, a longtime staple on the FOX 4 News at 5 & 9pm, has found a calling that’s higher than news: education. As a result, Hiland is stepping down from the anchor chair after 17 years to become the Director of Media and Public Relations at North Kansas City Public Schools, it was announced today by Tracy Brogden-Miller, FOX 4 Vice President of News.
Over the years Hiland has been a familiar face with partner John Holt on the FOX 4 News at 5 & 9, helping to propel those broadcasts to a perpetual number-one status and becoming an iconic figure in the landscape of local television.
In making this career choice, Susan, who is a graduate of Oak Park High School and also serves on the Northland Education Foundation Advisory Board said, “This opportunity is the perfect marriage of my skill set with my passion. I still get to do the things I love like produce videos, tell stories and do community outreach, all for my hometown.”
Hiland, who started at WDAF in 1999 and has logged 20 plus years in the business is excited for the chance to make an impact in her northland community. FOX 4 President and General Manager Cheryl McDonald said, “Susan has been a treasure; reliable, friendly, and a great colleague. She has made a significant contribution to our success here at the station and the North Kansas City School District is getting a proven winner. She will be missed.”
Tracy Brogden-Miller said, “Susan is leaving us with some big shoes to fill. You don’t just replace someone of her stature easily but our search for her replacement will start immediately.”
Susan’s last day at FOX 4 will be August 26, 2016. She will start with the School District sometime in September.
