PLATTE CITY, Mo. — People in Platte City are on edge after a string of suspicious fires in a cul-de-sac that residents say is a peaceful neighborhood filled with older couples and retirees.
Since last September, an apparent arsonist has torched Carey Bridger’s home on Town View Circle four times. She says that the culprit first set her patio fence on fire, and the flames then jumped to her dining room, causing $125,000 in damage.
Bridger and her husband have yet to return home, but she says that she prays that the culprit doesn’t strike a fifth time.
“I don’t know if they’re trying to instill fear,” said Bridger. “I don’t know if they realize that they could definitely kill someone. But yeah, it needs to stop.”
Police say that they believe the same suspect also set the home of the Bridger’s neighbor on fire three times in the same period. Fortunately, the elderly homeowner and her granddaughter were both uninjured in the fires.
Anyone with information about the fires should call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
