KANSAS CITY, Mo. — ‘Take Back America’ is a protest involving several advocacy groups. It’s to rally against immigration reform and amnesty made up of both old and young, men and women; all very different people who have one thing in common: American pride.
We are the absolute best country in the world in existence. We are a loving, giving, country,” said protestor Theresa Emerson.
“I have my American flag made in America,” said protestor Gregory Copenhaver.
“I don’t have a problem with immigrants. I have a problem with people who don’t go through the right channels to be an American citizen,” said protestor Jerry Knox.
“If the process is done correctly and they come in because they love America then they are welcome,” said Emerson.
More than 50,000 people have already illegally crossed the border and that number is expected to rise. A Pew research survey shows a majority of Americans want the deportation process to be sped up.
“To illegally come over and try to become legal after that, not what we’re about,” said Copenhaver.
Standing right across from the Department of Homeland Security, protestors were met with a varied response.
“We get a few people hitting their horns, honking, waving. One person flipping us off,” said protestor Justan Lowery.
Protestors say they were ready to face whatever comes their way if that means showing America they care.
